Audio Theatre presents the best comedy, drama and entertainment available for the ear.
A Monster of his Making
In this episode of Audio Theatre, The Narrada Radio Company performs for Pulp-Pourri Theatre in an audio drama based on a story found in the April 1938 issue of Dime Mystery Magazine. The story, titled A Monster of His Making, was written by Henry Treat Sperry.
The pulp magazine moniker was considered a put-down, referring to the cheap newsprint paper on which the monthly stories were printed and distributed. The implication was that the “literature” that was printed on the cheap paper was worthy of nothing better.
Pulp magazines were targeted to specific genres, detective, science fiction, romance, horror and beyond. Their cheap cover prices and low prodcution costs made them inexpensive fodder for young readers looking for popular entertainment. Often marketed to young men and boys using lurid illustrations combining women, violence and fetishism, the literary content of these periodicals was often overlooked.
